JOHANNESBURG.
Siberian DJ Nina Kraviz is heading to South Africa for the first time to
headline the Future Gods event series on 4th and 5th April in Cape Town and
Johannesburg respectively.
A multi-faceted
artist who is well known for incorporating live vocals into her DJ sets, Nina Kraviz
has risen up the ranks to become one of the most prominent and productive female
DJs in the world. Her relentless global touring schedule and critically
acclaimed releases bear testimony to her distinctive sound and talent.
With a long time passion for house and techno that dates back
to her days as a journalist, Kraviz is first and foremost a DJ, and one who
showcases her first love - Chicago house and Detroit techno. Her drive to dig
deep into the archives of these genres allows her to create a tapestry of past,
present and future sounds - introducing her audience to where the scene has
come from and where it might be heading.
Her deep, stripped back sound and uncompromising attitude has
created an insatiable demand for her sets and a demanding touring schedule
which has seen her playing at the world’s top festivals such as the Amsterdam Dance
Event, Decibel, Awakenings, The Detroit Electronic Music Festival as well as regular
appearances at clubs including Berghain, Fabric and The Warehouse Project – not
to mention securing a much-coveted residency at Richie Hawtin's ENTER. project at Space in Ibiza.
Two pioneering
event organizers Raymond Bloom and Juaan Ferreira are behind
the Future Gods events. The pair have
played a critical role in bringing out global dance brands many years ahead of
the current influx. “Over last 7 years we've been bringing the
Godskitchen brand to the South African market with some of the biggest names in
electronic music. This platform has certainly been successful but now has
little difference to the multitude of large dance music based brands and events
that are pouring into the local scene.” explains Ferreira.
“The introduction of the Future Gods shows has
freed us up to push the boundaries and entertain an edgier, more underground crowd
who are crying out for a taste of what the leading cities in the world are
enjoying right now” he continues, “Nina Kraviz, in this respect is perfect! We
have no doubt that she will serve up a no holds barred set of music, delivered
with the kind of attitude that has made her one of the most fiercely debated
DJ/producers of the underground dance music movement. What could be better?”.
