Superbalist is Rocking the Daisies, your festival playground of music, comedy, art and entertainment is proud to host the Beating Heart collaborative, a powerful musical story bought to our shores by representatives: Rudimental (DJ Set), My Nu Leng, Kidnap Kid and DJ’s and co-founders Chris Pedley and Olly Wood.
In 1929, when visionary Hugh Tracey travelled through Africa to record African music, he built up a unique archive over six decades with over 35,000 African music tracks. Almost 90 years later, some of the world’s best global producers and DJ’s discovered the archive and remixed the beats. The result: an extraordinary, uplifting ensemble rich in ambiance and tone. This is Beating Heart.
The core of the initiative is grounded in collaboration and connection, with a vision of sustainable culture. The sounds connect artists, communities and institutions from all over the globe and will be introduced to Daisies audiences by the UK’s drum and bass group Rudimental (DJ set) alongside the global collective, Beating Heart.
Rudimental needs no introduction. Crowds at 2014’s Daisies and In the City heaved en masse to the beats of their huge hits “Free”, “Not Giving In”, “Waiting All Night” and “Lay It On Me”. With an overwhelming chorus to bring Rudimental back to Daisies, what better way to experience them! Expect a taste of Rudimental’s unique sound as well as influences from the Beating Heart sound collection.
Kidnap Kid is one of the UK’s most successful exports and no stranger to Think In Electronic. His sound is defined as darker, sleeker and always dance-floor ready. The DJ and record producer gave masses a taste of his sound when he toured South Africa earlier this year, if you missed him you can catch him dropping his unique sound as well as incorporating Beating Heart influences into his set.
Black Butter's Drum and Bass, Dubstep, UK Garage and Grime dropping artist My Nu Leng are influenced by a spectrum of underground sounds that makes theirs a set not to be missed. My Nu Leng are known for their blistering sets and dark, smoldering vibe, heavy on the mood but always compulsively danceable. With a busy touring schedule, we are lucky to have them playing at the Nu World Beat Club with a mix of their own sound and Beating Heart influences.
By remixing these traditional sounds, selected contemporary artists bring them to the next generation, preserving the beautiful and unique sounds of Africa.
Visit the official Beating Heart website - http://beating-heart.co.uk/; When you buy a Beating Heart remix, you’re generating income to assist people in the areas where the music was originally recorded.
Expect bass and funk from former Fabric resident DJ, Ali B. All the way from the UK, Ali B will be hitting the shores of the Caribbean Twist Beach Bar to have some fun in the sun with us.
