AHEAD OF HER HIGHLY ANTICIPATED 2ND ALBUM, MAYA JANE COLES WILL TRAVEL TO JOHANNESBURG AND OTHER CITIES AROUND THE WORLD TO UNDERTAKE A BOLD NEW CREATIVE GLOBAL PROJECT: “TRUE MUSIC”
Building on a three-year partnership, Ballantine’s Scotch whisky and Boiler Room have announced a major new global platform called ‘True Music,’ celebrating and supporting pioneering artists known for making music born from passion, not compromise.
For their first project, Ballantine’s & Boiler Room’s True Music will work with critically acclaimed and globally renowned producer and DJ Maya Jane Coles. A true modern icon in electronic music, Maya is a globally renowned DJ and producer who exemplifies the very essence of True Music; writing, engineering, arranging, mixing and performing all the elements within her tracks and refusing to compromise on her work at any stage. Nowhere will that be more evident than in her highly anticipated second album, due to launch in early 2017.
With Maya at the helm, the True Music platform will travel across South Africa, Russia and Spain over the next five months. Along the way she will curate a remix EP from her upcoming 2017 album, working with her favourite True Music artists from each country, kicking off with Culoe De Song in South Africa. Each artist has been handpicked as they epitomise the philosophy of True Music in their work. The resulting EP will be a limited-edition vinyl and digital release.
Within each of these countries, major live-streamed events and content will be produced, allowing the world to tune in and see Maya work with these local artists to curate a night with True Music at its core, with a line-up featuring global and local artists. Heading from Johannesburg (24th November) to Moscow in February, these shows will then culminate in Madrid in early 2017 with a 2,000 capacity event.
Ballantine’s & Boiler Room’s True Music Johannesburg event will feature, along with lead artist Maya, an exceptional and expertly curated line-up of international and local artists.
REMIX ARTIST: Culoe de Song
INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS: Karizma, AND, Francois K

About True Music
The aim of True Music is to celebrate music artists, like Maya, that do it their way. Whether they are just starting out or already global stars, True Music will champion artists that share this pioneering spirit and challenge them to push boundaries. Not in pursuit of the glitz and glamour, but to make the music which they truly believe in, for them as artists, and for their fans.
The True Music platform follows on from Ballantine’s and Boiler Room’s partnership over the past three years, having explored and celebrated the stories of 14 local music scenes from Mexico City to Moscow, South Africa and beyond. In the process, 35 million music fans have experienced the live-streamed events, documentary and music content featuring the likes of DJ Premier, Carl Craig, Nina Kraviz, Underground Resistance, Skream and Seth Troxler. Now heading into the fourth year, True Music is the latest phase.
Blaise Bellville, Boiler Room Founder & CEO added: “We’re hugely proud of our work with Ballantine’s over the past few years. Since the partnership began, it’s been evident how committed both parties are to pushing artists who create music because of the passion that compels them. With Ballantine’s and True Music, we’re excited to be taking this to the next level by working with such a ground-breaking artist such as Maya.”
Maya Jane Coles: “I’m super excited to be kicking off the first project for True Music. It’s a journey that’s going to take me from South Africa to Russia and Spain, working with a collection of amazing artists that approach their work with the same passion and conviction that I do.”
