After much debate, the group came up with several complex suggestions to which the older comic replied: "Nope. Comedy is when the audience laughs". In that spirit, this year sees The 4th Annual South African Savanna Comic’s Choice Awards® (CCA’s) celebrate laughter, which is the whole point, isn’t it?<u></u><u></u></span></span></div>

attended the 3<sup>rd</sup> <b>The Annual South African Comic’s Choice Awards™</b> held
at the Teatro in Monte Casino on Saturday 24 August 2013. Comics, Celebs and a
ton of media graced the yellow carpet as they gathered to honour only the
hottest and most happening comedic talent around. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span lang="EN-ZA" style="font-family: inherit;">The Annual South African Comic’s Choice
Awards is an opportunity for every professional comedian in the country to
register and vote for his or her favourite registered comedian in each
category. There are no committees, panels or governing bodies, the votes are
simply counted, and the results made known. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span lang="EN-ZA" style="font-family: inherit;">The awards was centered around the theme the
“Art of funny” meant to embody the fact that comedy as a freedom of expression
is in fact an art. This year’s theme, “The Art Of Funny” centered on
self-expression and social justice, so whilst audiences laughed at the
collaborative sketches, there was an underlying message of how comedians, much
like graffiti artists and free-runners have the ability to reshape reality,
drive a revolution and change the world.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

surrounded the yellow carpet to capture shots of the stars of the night. Now
you wouldn’t think comedians had it in them but they all looked fabulous
dressed to the nines in formal attire. We got to admit we were quite impressed
by the few that arrived in theme “The art of funny “and<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>self expression (laughs) dress check pics

graphic MC Chris (insert pic) with no eyes were short and sweet and totally enjoyable.
All the entertainment was </span>centered<span style="font-family: inherit;"> around the “Art of Funny” theme and included a
mind blowing performance by some parkour free runners,</span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">really adorable mime artists, the sweetest
little old lady dancers influenced by modern dancers shaking down to Pussy Cat
Dolls, a funny banter between a black and white rhino and </span>of course<span style="font-family: inherit;"> comedians
including Skhumbuza, Magnus Magnuson and Chris Forest. Each award was presented
by a well-known celebrity or comedian which includes the likes of Anele Mdoda who
is looking absolutely fabulous at the moment, Joe Mafela and </span></span><span lang="EN-ZA" style="color: #222222; font-family: "inherit","serif"; font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-ZA;">Jahmil Qubeka.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Pioneering comic <b>Kagiso Lediga</b> won the respect of his peers for his sharp-witted content creation and was awarded <i>The Times Comic’s Pen Award; </i>a well-deserved accolade for one of SA’s most venerable comedians. <b>Mpho Popps Modikoane’s</b> youthful talent and charming comedic disposition were recognized by the industry as he was awarded the <i>BlackBerry Breakthrough Act Award</i>.  <u></u><u></u></span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">At Soweto’s Savanna Newcomer’s Showcase in June, crowds gave <b>Schalk Bezuidenhout</b> a standing ovation, so it was no surprise that this mustachioed comic with his trademark ironic jersey and ankle-length trousers would be voted for by industry to win the Waldo in the <i>Savanna Newcomer Award</i> category. <u></u><u></u></span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;"><b>Trevor Noah</b> was awarded <i>The Comic’s Choice Comic of the Year Award</i> once again but was unable to attend due to health reasons, while legendary ‘Cousin’ <b>Barry Hilton</b> was the well-deserving recipient of <i>The Lifetime Achievement Award. <u></u><u></u></i></span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">This year’s theme, “The Art Of Funny” centered on self-expression and social justice, so whilst audiences laughed at the collaborative sketches, there was an underlying message of how comedians, much like graffiti artists and free-runners have the ability to reshape reality, drive a revolution and change the world.  The opening message of the awards encapsulated that ethos - “A free runner is a human soul that refuses to see walls. They use barriers created by authorities as canvases on which to celebrate freedom and rebellion… So do stand-up comics.”<u></u><u></u></span></div>
