Interview || Getting Tyte With Michael Lesar

Exclusive Interview With Michael Lesar Ahead Of Cool Inc Tattoo Convention

michael lesar

Hello Michael and a very warm welcome to Think IN Electronic. It’s an honor to be doing this interview with you. Thank you for taking time out to answer a few of our questions.

  1. How are you doing and what’s the best way to celebrate spring fever?
Thank you so much for having me :) Party yourself into a coma at some outdoor festival like the tattoo convention is definitely 1 way to do it ;)

  1. To start off can you tell us more about who you are and how you found yourself in music?
I was born in Cape Town on the Cape flats and moved to Jhb about 4- 5 years ago I was always drawn to music from a young age I started djing with tape decks when I was about 12 years old, years later I launched Deep Heet Parteez and the rest as they say is history

  1. What’s the best thing about living in South Africa?
Way too many to mention definitely our diverse vibrant cultures, best food ever, best weather, best scenery, so much creativity, friendly people, and it’s the mother land to the world life started here..

  1. You moved from Cape Town to Johannesburg in 2009, which is the better place for music?
In my opinion C.T is where you are inspired to create, most of the best creatives in any genre / industry is from C.T but if you want to take your craft to the next level you have to ''make'' it in Jhb that’s just the way the cookie crumbles

  1. You burst on to the scene as co-founder and resident dj of the legendary DeepHeet Parteez (2002-2012) which fast became one of the premium events on the CT House Scene in your opinion what needs to be done to make an event a success.
When starting an event you have to ask yourself 1 important question, what is it that you as a party person/ clubber would like to see at an event and take it from there also consistency and quality are another 2 important factors.

  1. You were one half of Audio Villains with Tiny T, would you say DJ’n alone gives one more creative freedom? What’s the major difference of DJ’n as a duo as opposed to alone? Which do you prefer?
I enjoy both especially if you connect with the person you playing with, when playing as a duo you feed off each others energy which is great and playing alone is like telling your own story

  1.  Tyte Productions is your record label it crosses over all genres such as House, Hiphop & Rnb, Psy Trance, 70s disco, drum&bass, dubstep, how do you find a balance with regard what to release and when to release?
- Tyte Productions is more of an events company than a record label when creating different types of events it is usually in the moment whatever inspires me at the time if it feels right I will do it

  1. Which genre would you say is most popular in South Africa?
House music

  1. Your DJ style is very varied, as a DJ is it healthy to have a varied style?
Yep for me personally it keeps me very inspired as I love all good music there is good and bad in every style I could never ever play just 1 style of music for the rest of my life it would kill me also playing different styles gives me access to many different types of festivals and events which keeps me very busy, at the end of the day i'm still doing what I love most

  1. What are some of your non-music related inspirations that help usher on the creative process when you're in a creative dead-end?
- I Love travelling very much and love experiencing music festivals all over the world, seeing what artists are doing on the other side of the globe inspires me very much

  1. You're playing the Cool Inc. tattoo expo this year. Do you have any tattoos and if so, what's the story behind your favorite one?
Ha-ha I have no tattoos yet and am actually thinking of doing 1 on my 40th birthday which is coming soon definitely something that means something to me

  1. What can some of the Cool Inc. guests expect from your set on the day?
I’m doing an Electro Swing set as its happy music and during the day as well so it appeals to the whole family perfect for Sunday vibes

  1. Serious question, how long did it take you to grow your dreadlocks, and will you ever chop them off?
Hahaha I've been growing for 20 years maybe I’ll cut them one day but have no plans at the moment

  1. Any Last messages for your fans?
Thank you one and all for all the love and support hope to see you guys at my 40th birthday party at Mihouse on the 27th Sep <3
