Roger Shah Presents Sunlounger [Review]

Roger-Pierre Shah a name which needs absolutely no introduction. A modern day Trance hero, the Savannah himself presents his brand new chill out album. German born, this Balearic Trance superstar has been around as long as the sound has and my god he gives a new meaning to the category ‘chill out’.

 Kicking off with a fantastic chill out edit of ‘Lost’ featuring Zara, Shah takes us on a journey to the magic island of Ibiza, smooth transcending beats massaging your soul perfectly. Genius. Next its Shah’s ‘White sand’ another chill out edit designed to put your mind at least, on a warm beach, with an amazing part played by a Spanish guitar this masterpiece gives you an idea of what it would be like to lay on a Spanish beach in summer, perhaps in the morning as the sun comes up when it is just you and the tide. In at number 3 on the album ‘Another day on the terrace’, this very appropriately named blend of soft beats starts off with waves crashing on the shore a vision which stays with you through the entire song. ‘Mojito’ with the very talented Andre Frauenstein is next. Starting harmonically, he slowly brings in more sounds, layering it masterfully. Again we hear this Spanish guitar caressing the harmony so softly and beautifully, when he brings in the bass everything seems to come together rather enchantingly. Next we have a very emotionally haunting vocal track featuring Kyler England ‘Change your mind’ with a classic trance riff this three minute marvel forces you to concede a tear. Shah seems to favour vocalists with a smooth voice who can enunciate practically at a slow pace and none is better at this then the beautiful Zara ‘Crawling’ is at number 6. I could write oceans of paragraphs to describe the next few songs such as, ‘Sunny tales’, ‘Try to be love’, ‘In & out’, ‘I’ll be fine’, ‘A Balearic dinner’, ‘Found’ with the lovely Zara Taylor, ‘Talk to me’ and many more but none would do real justice to the fantastically harmonies beats.  I will say that the way that he ends off the album with Sophie Sugar vs Sunlounger ‘Lost together’ (Armin van buuren mash up edit) is brilliant. Fast, upbeat with vocals how could you go wrong with that.

You truly feel as if this is not music but life written down as chords. The album starts off smooth and beautiful as if it is morning in Ibiza and your watching the sunrise and ends off celebratory as though night has descended on the magic island and it is time to rave a true, true masterpiece.
