Soul Candi SAMA Nominees 2014
The South African Music Awards are probably the most prestigious of music awards in Southern
Africa. The nominations for the 20th annual Music Awards were announced yesterday, 13 March
2014, and the Soul Candi team could not be more ecstatic with the results.
The powerhouse group, Mi Casa a clear SAMA favourite, are leading the nominations pack with
an incredible 5 nominations. In case you’re not familiar withthese superstars (do you live on Mars?), here’s a quick overview. This trio of talent brought together by a twist of fate in 2010 have released smash hits like “These Streets”, “Heavenly Sent” andfrom their newest, bright and shiny album, the huge singles “Jika” and “Turn You On”.They’ve toured Southern Africa, have great brands backing them, a huge following of radical fans and even do the occasional nude shoot for charity. Their new album, Mi Casa Su Casa, is now in the spotlight with the SAMA
nominations for “Best Dance Album” and “Best Album”, while their super single “Jika” has been
nominated for “Best Remix” (done by Chymamusique) and “Best Music Video”. Overall, the handsome lads, also received a nomination for “Duo/Group of
the Year”. Already the proud recipients of 4 SAMAs, the Soul
Candi team has great expectations for this years awards!
Another very dapper man who has the ladies swooning and
lovers of dance music under his spell, is the ever charming, Lulo
Cafe. His first studio album, Soul Africa, has been nominated
alongside Mi Casa in the category of “Best Dance Album”. This
is Lulo’s debut studio album and features monster tracks like
“Crazy” and “Whistling to Bed”. Lulo Cafe has been described
as an aficionado of quality, cutting edge House music and this
album definitely lives up to this reputation.
A group making waves in the industry and that Soul Candi is super proud of is the spectacularly
soulful, Muzart. Receiving two nominations this year, namely, “Best Newcomer” and “Best
RnB/Soul/Reggae Album”. Their selftitled debut album, Muzart, has been a special gem for this
group, bringing us breathtaking singles like “Jukebox” and “The After Party”.
This group of five gifted musicians who combine their talents and unique perspectives to create
magical musical pieces are hopeful and excited about their nominations as is the Soul Candi
team.
Lastly, but most certainly not least, is the nomination of
superstar DJ, Euphonik. His remix of Hallelujah Anyway
from Candi Station has made it into the category of “Best
Remix”. After winning a Metro FM Award not so long ago
for his newest album, “For The Love of House Vol 5”, DJ
Euphonik seems to be on a winning streak.
Waiting in anticipation for the final winners to be
announced at the official ceremony end April, the Soul
Candi team could not be prouder of all their nominees. A
celebratory party will be following soon keep an eye out
for it!
