The M Machine – Superflat

As of late, electro and innovation are words not exactly mentioned in the same breath. With many joining in the mass exodus from the main-stage to more intimate dance floors coloured in shades of soulful deep house and rhythmic techno. But every once in a while a true gem emerges from under the electro banner, and in this case, The M Machine have done just that.

Perhaps it’s the refreshing, Japanese-inspired, vocaloid hook, a likely nod to the recent Hatsune Miku craze, or the endless laser effects, harking back to Knife Party at their most disruptive, either way, these varied components are undoubtedly part of one of the more exciting electro releases in ages. What The M Machine have created here, is a track that operates as both club-destroying banger and unfolding narrative journey, complete with melodic, piano-led, comedowns and distant thunder storms crackling in the void beyond. As with the group’s hugely successful ‘Metropolis’ series, they’ve managed to instil their trademark otherworldly aesthetic, while retaining enough punch to satisfy even the harshest critic.
