Alesia – Andrea EP
There are great things coming out of the Parisian Techno scene lately. With the world still reeling from the aftershock of Gesaffelstein’s ‘Aleph’ fellow Frenchmen, Alesia, have released their ‘Andrea’ EP on the Skrillex-headed OWSLA Label. The dark and brooding opener ‘Dies Irae’ instantly draws comparisons to Gesaffelstein’s hard, lightless aesthetic. As the EP progresses though, it becomes apparent that this is a far more accessible iteration of that token sound, leaning more towards the danceable techno of Boys Noize. ‘Jezabel’ and ‘Industriae’ steal the show as far more colourful, dance-ready tracks than the almost all black, minimalist EP artwork would initially suggest. As a whole, the EP is a welcome divergence from the limited sonic palette of the current electronic landscape, injecting a taste of the intriguing Parisian underground with superb results. ‘Andrea’ is out now on OWSLA.
