Debonair gentlemen Hlomla Dandala and Michael Mol are set to host the inaugural Royalty Soapie Awards at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) on 8 March 2014.
The Awards will be broadcast on television and expectations are high. The organisers want to ensure a slick production that meets viewer expectations so for the hosts they have gone for experience and finesse.
Critically acclaimed actor, presenter and director Hlomla Dandala needs no introduction to fans of the small screen. His impressive portfolio includes playing the lead in the award-winning series Jacob’s Cross I, II & III, a production that has gained huge popularity locally and internationally, and has been translated into many other languages. He has also featured in some of the more popular productions on South African TV including Isidingo, Tsha Tsha, Gaz’lam, Jozi H and Interrogation Room.
Michael Mol is a medical doctor, an executive television producer, presenter, international speaker, business consultant and company director. He anchored Top Billing, South Africa’s longest running prime time television magazine programme, for more than a decade. The award winning presenter also helped create shows such as The Dr Mol Show and Expresso.
“We are delighted to have secured such a high calibre of talented hosts and we are confident they will do a sterling job come awards evening,” said project director Sindile Xulu.
The Royalty Soapie Awards are more than just an opportunity for the industry to come together and celebrate; they will help grow the quality of programming by creating a new level of healthy competition. All major players will be recognised, from actors to make-up artists, writers to producer, directors to costume designers.
The announcement of finalists in the acting categories will be made on 23 October and voting lines for the Most Popular Soapie open on 2 November.
A date for the opening of ticket sales for the event will be announced in the near future.
