Sensational multi-instrumentalist to celebrate Women’s Month at Music at the Lake

Award winning multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Loops returns to the Durban Botanical to celebrate Women’s Month at the Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert on Sunday 18 August .

Loops will take to the stage having just wrapped a highly successful UK tour, where his performance at London’s legendary Borderline club earned critical praise and five star reviews. Back home he walked off with an MK award earlier this year for the best solo artist in South Africa.

Acclaim has followed Loops from the moment he stepped into the public eye. Mahala magazine remarked at his first festival performance how “out of nowhere this hipster kid with a feather in his hat came out and blew the roof off” and his hit single Power remains widely played across national radio.

Calling himself a modern folk artist, influenced by Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, Loops creates “a mash-up of a number of genres, namely folk, reggae, hip-hop, gypsy-jazz…. whatever keeps me smiling really.”

Live, his performance is very much about crowd participation and collaboration, most notably with rapper Motheo Moleko and saxophonist Jamie Faull.

Away from the limelight Loops helps run the social business Greenpop which focuses on greening and sustainable living.

“Loops is probably one of the most exciting young voices I’ve heard in a long time and, like him, we share an interest in sustainable greening,” said Old Mutual sponsorship manager, Bandile Mngoma.

“We too believe in doing things for more than ourselves and the rationale for the Old Mutual Music at the Lake series is to ensure the sustainability of the Durban Botanical Gardens and the biodiversity it supports.

“We are also particularly happy about Loops’ growth. Whereas he was a supporting act in 2012, we are proud to feature him as the main act this year,” concludes Mngoma.

The Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert series has revolutionised the outdoor music scene in Durban. The 2013 series has hosted acts such as The Parlotones, Johnny Clegg, Prime Circle, Mafikizolo, Goldfish, Gangs of Ballet, Asleep in Transit, Ard Matthews and Khaya Mthethwa at the Durban Botanical Gardens.
